VISION & DIRECTION

Where are you going?

In effective organisation, everyone has a clear sense of where the enterprise is going. They have a compelling vision. There are three parts of Compelling vision:

1.Purpose: What business are you in it, it should have passion involved

2.Picture of future: What the future will look like, when things are running as you have planned.

3.Values: How do you want your people to be when they are working on your purpose and the picture of future

Purpose – To make perfect human beings. Good human beings become good students. Walt Disney had a clear purpose – they were in happiness business.

Picture of Future : When children pass out from Modern School there parents are proud of their achievement and we should feel satisfied that we have contributed to the society. Walt Disney’s Picture of the Future was that when the guests left the parks, they would have the same smile on their face as when they entered their park.

Value: Any one organisation should have three to four values. Values drive people behaviour when they are working on your purpose and your picture of future. The values should be in order.

  • Discipline
  • Courtesy
  • Efficiency
  • Care

The First Value is Discipline: Because you need disciplined citizens with high moral values and well defined soft skills. Without proper discipline inside the school, we can’t teach them well. If they are not disciplined they would not be able to fulfil their dreams and the dreams of their parents.

The Second Value is Courtesy: It’s all about friendly attitude towards parents and students. Solving their problems politely and convincing them. But while attending to them, they see some discipline problem. They should excuse them politely and look after the discipline just as, that is your first value. Listen to them to understand don’t argue.

The Third Value is Efficiency: The teacher should come prepared with her lessons, so that she can teach efficiently and does justice with the children. She removes their doubts, give timely home work, check copies on time, be punctual and works hard with them so that they get ‘A’ in their final exams.

The Fourth Value is CARE: Every care should be taken that both parents and students are made comfortable. Help them complete their work when they are sick. Visit them when they are hospitalised, phone them up if you need some help from parents. When parents have problem, solve their problem with a caring attitude.

Keep a regular check whether the child is attending his classes. Your attitude should be such that both parents and children can approach you with confidence. Develop a spirit in them that we Care.

Having a set of operating values is very important in an organisation. In schools, which don’t have any value, everybody brings their own values to work, and that becomes confusing.

Clear vision is very important. It tells people both internally and externally, who are you (purpose), where are you going (picture of Future) and what would guide your journey (Values). Once a clear vision is set, the established goals are placed in context. Goals tell people what they should focus on. All good performances start with clear goals. If the organisation has to be effective, people throughout the organisation must be responsive to this vision.
